‘Bow-Tie’ is a graphical display of the hazard’s potential threat and consequences, associated barriers and how these barriers can fail (escalation factor). The Major Accident Hazard (MAH) analysis is further presented through Bowtie method which is a qualitative approach to identify additional appropriate controls (barriers) to prevent the hazards and mitigate the potential consequences.
This exercise therefore helps in identification of key HSE Critical Equipment and System (HSECES) which are in place and key HSE Critical Activities (HSECA) which are required to be carried out to ensure management of MAH.
All identified MAHs are subject to comprehensive analysis using bow-ties, which are grouped with similar Top Event that will be asset / location specific.
Bowties is a team-based brainstorming technique, normally taking input from HAZID & HAZOP Workshops and taking benefit from the collective knowledge & experience of the workshop team.
