Hazard Identification (HAZID) is a technique for early identification of potential hazards and threats associated with a proposed activity, with a view to eliminate or reduce the hazards at the earliest practicable stage of a development or venture.
Early identification of hazards facilitates early implementation of risk reduction measures, thus reducing the impacts on cost and schedule compared to later implementation of risk reduction measures.
HAZID is a team-based brainstorming technique, normally guided by Hazard Guidewords and taking benefit from the collective knowledge and experience of the workshop team to identify potential Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) hazards.
