With a reputation for being a risky industry with health risks that are usually serious and painful, every miner needs to be taken care of. Nevertheless, mining doesn’t have to be unsafe and can be kept under check.

Dust

Although preventing black lungs have been legally enforced for a long time now still inhalation of dust is one the most common problems to a miner.

Noise

Mines are often very noisy places with heavy drilling and machinery working around the clock which arises potential hearing damage.

Body vibrations

WBV is a physical hazard in miners which occurs due to working on heavy machinery with a lot of vibrations. This develops slowly and often very irritating.

UV exposure

Open-pit mines are usually at the risk of overexposure to UV radiation from the sunlight. Short term exposure leads to dehydration, headaches and nausea but long term exposure can even lead to deadly diseases like skin cancer.

Thermal stress

As we know, mines are usually a hot and humid place. Overexposure to heat and humidity can affect the human body in more than one way, such as fatigued/distressed employee and we know that neither of the two is good things in this line of work.

Chemical hazards

Usually, the chemicals used in mining sectors are polymeric chemicals which are hazardous. Every chemical has a unique set of hazards which should be informed and proper training to use the chemical should be given to the person using them.
