Reporting on environmental performance is an essential element of each Group Company’s (GCs) Health, Safety and Environmental Management System (HSEMS) and Abu Dhabi National Oil Companies (ADNOC’s) Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) assurance process. It provides the mechanism for checking that environmental policies and corporate targets are being achieved and also enables corrective actions to be focused on areas where they are most needed. It also provides key information on environmental performance to ADNOC and GC Senior Management, including information on the overall goal of continual improvement.

In order for environmental reporting to be of value, source data must be accurate and collected systematically, including appropriate quality assurance (QA) procedures. The purpose of this Standard is to establish the requirements for such systematic collection and reporting on environmental performance, throughout the ADNOC Group. The environmental performance data collected by Group Companies, together with health and safety performance data will be used to compile the annual Group–wide HSE Status Report and ADNOC Performance Report.

In a wider context, there has been a growing trend in the oil and gas industry in recent years for more transparency in its environmental affairs, including the sharing and publishing of information on environmental affairs. ADNOC fully supports these initiatives and participates in environmental data sharing initiatives through e.g. the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (OGP) Environmental Performance Indicators survey, Statistics Centre of Abu Dhabi (SCAD) and Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) Emissions Inventory. Adherence to the requirements of this Standard will enable ADNOC to continue to support this global initiative.
