Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a systematic procedure for the identification and assessment of environmental impacts associated with an activity, project or process, and subsequent determination of appropriate mitigation and monitoring practices.
The process of EIA is an integral component of the overall Health, Safety and Environmental Impact Assessment (HSEIA) process.
The EIA process starts at the earliest possible stage of a project to verify the environmental feasibility of a project in order to identify the important environmental aspects for further consideration in the following phases of a project.
The output of the EIA process is presented in the form of an EIA Report, which provides details of various analyses and assessments conducted during the EIA, the methodologies and assumptions used, information on the predicted significant impacts and their mitigation, and commitments for subsequent environmental management and monitoring.
